This guide is designed to help you to get better grades. How? By helping you understand how criteria-based marking works. Examiners look for evidence that students (you) need to produce. To get better marks you need to write answers that contain this evidence. This guide explains how to do this and also provides you with examples of how to write answers to ensure this happens.
If you understand what you need to do to get exam marks, you can exercise more control over the outcomes. No exam should beat you. But... it takes work, practice, a willingness to reflect, and to make changes to your approach. The rewards of doing so will be felt for the rest of your life.
I have marked thousands of scripts over the last 10 years and witnessed the mistakes that are repeated year after year by diligent, hardworking students. With more understanding of the process of marking, they could have gained better grades. Their determination is so often evident. Their focus is, sadly, often wrong.
